I am Punyapriya (Benu) Gopal, and I run the Connecticut School of Reiki from Avon, Connecticut. This page explains what happens to your information when you visit this website, write to me, book a session, or take a class.
This website
This site is hosted on WordPress.com. It uses Jetpack Stats, which counts page views and tells me roughly which pages people read and which country they came from. It does not tell me who you are.
There are no advertising trackers on this site, no Google Analytics, no social media pixels, and nothing that follows you to other websites. Images are served through WordPress.com’s content network, which means your browser contacts their servers to load them.
WordPress.com sets a small number of cookies to make the site work and to count visits. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
When you write to me
There is no contact form here. If you email CTSchoolOfReiki@gmail.com or text (860) 796-9431, that message sits in my email or on my phone, and I read it. I use what you tell me to answer your question and to prepare for your session.
I do not add you to a mailing list. I do not send newsletters. I do not share or sell your contact details to anyone.
When you book and pay
Booking and payment are handled by Square, not by me. When you book, you are on Square’s system, and their privacy policy governs what happens there. I receive your name, your contact details, and which session you booked. I never see your full card number.
Session notes
Before a first session I ask about what you are dealing with, any medical treatment you are having, and anything I should work around. I keep brief notes so that I do not have to ask you the same questions again.
These notes are kept securely and are not shared with anyone. I keep them for one year after your last session, and then I destroy them. If you would like me to delete your notes sooner, ask me and I will.
Class and certification records
If you take a certification class with me, I keep your name and contact details, a record of which degree you completed and when, and your place in the Reiki lineage.
I keep these indefinitely. That is deliberate: it is what allows me to confirm your certification years later if you ever need proof of it.
Children and young people
This website is not aimed at children, and I do not knowingly collect information through it from anyone under 18.
I do work with people under 18. For a Reiki session, a parent, guardian, or appointed caregiver gives consent and stays with the young person throughout the session. For a certification class, I need a parent or guardian’s approval, but they do not need to accompany the student.
Where a client or student is under 18, I keep the same records I would keep for an adult, together with the consent given by the parent or guardian. A parent or guardian can ask me at any time what I hold about their child, correct it, or have it deleted.
My hospital work is separate
I coordinate the Reiki Volunteer Program at Hartford Hospital. If you receive Reiki as a patient there, that is arranged by the hospital, and your information is held by Hartford HealthCare under their policies and under HIPAA — not by me and not by this website. Nothing from my hospital work is stored here.
What I am not
I hold an MD but I am not licensed to practice medicine in Connecticut, and my private Reiki practice is not a medical practice. That means it is not a HIPAA covered entity. I mention this so you know exactly what protections do and do not apply: the confidentiality I offer is a professional and personal commitment, not a federal one.
Your choices
Write to me at CTSchoolOfReiki@gmail.com and I will tell you what I hold about you, correct it, or delete it. There is no form and no process. Just ask.
Changes
If this policy changes I will update the date at the top.
